According to many experts, what we call Geraniums are, in fact Pelargoniums, which sounds a little more authoratitive! Apparently, Pelargoniums are actually hardy Geraniums or Cranesbills.
These popular perennials are both extrovert and flamboyant. In fact, theyre a must for any border or hanging basket because of their sheer exuberance, personality and colour.
In the past, most of our stock arrived at Scawby as somewhat bedraggled refugees, so it was a question of what you saw was what you got.
Recently, we have tried to be more structured in our approach and have begun to grow a number of clearly identified varieties. We’re still in the early stages of building up our selection, so we may well not have in stock all the varieties listed here. Nevertheless, the following pages will give you a snapshot of the scope of our ambitions!
We think it’s worth highlighting the scented Pelargoniums not only for their delightful fragrances but also for their often bizarre names, such as Atomic Snowflake, Chocolate Peppermint, Crispum variegatum, Nervous Mabel and Odoratissimum. Added to which, they apparently served as the Victorian equivalent of the modern air-freshener.
The collection we are in the process of assembling falls into seven distinct groups as follows:
Ivy Leaf Trailing
Blue Ivy Leaf
Pink Ivy Leaf Trailing
Red Variegated Ivy Leaf
White Ivy Leaf

The photographs shown on the following pages have all been taken of plants raised here at Scawby and are intended simply to provide an indication of the range of colours and forms to be found here.
For obvious reasons, we cannot guarantee that the entire range will be available at any given time.
